The Marion County coroner’s office has identified the 15-year-old KIPP Legacy High School student who was shot and killed near the school on Friday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Devin Gilbert III.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and the school, Gilbert was shot as he was walking home from school shortly before 1 p.m. The police have classified the shooting as a targeted incident and confirmed that no other individuals were injured.

IMPD homicide detectives announced on Friday night that they had arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the shooting. However, the police have not released the name of the suspect. The final charging decision will be made by the Marion County prosecutor’s office.

Due to the suspect’s age, charges will be filed in juvenile court, according to a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office.
