The devastating collision took place on Friday evening. According to the autorickshaw driver, Sakhavat Ansari, 44, who was among the injured, he was transporting a female passenger from Mira Road to Malad via the WEH. At approximately 6:30 pm, while driving on the south-bound arm of the highway near the Times of India press, a car suddenly approached from behind at a high speed and collided with the autorickshaw. The impact was so severe that the autorickshaw overturned, resulting in Ansari fracturing his hand and his passenger, Tanuja Sahani, 45, sustaining leg injuries.

Instead of stopping, the car continued its reckless path, crashing into a motorcycle and a tempo before ultimately flipping over. The motorcyclist, later identified as Sohan Singh, 64, suffered critical head injuries and lost consciousness. He was bleeding profusely at the scene. The tempo driver, Vijay Chavan, also suffered a fractured leg. Meanwhile, despite the chaos, Ansari managed to memorize the car’s registration number.

A crowd quickly gathered at the accident site and confronted the car’s driver, Milan Kothari. He provided his name to the concerned onlookers. In the meantime, Ansari contacted his uncle for assistance. Ansari and his uncle rushed to the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali West, where Singh and Chavan were also taken. Tragically, Singh was pronounced dead at the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Medical professionals at the hospital stated that Ansari would require surgery and advised his uncle to transfer him to Nair Hospital in central Mumbai. However, considering the significant distance between Ansari’s residence in Dahisar and Nair Hospital, his uncle decided to take him to a local nursing home in Dahisar instead. Police confirmed that Sahani’s injuries were not life-threatening.
