Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 37-year-old female officer employed by the Karnataka government was mercilessly hacked to death at her residence in Bengaluru on Saturday. The assailant broke into her house during the night when her husband and son were away, brutally ending her life, according to the police. The victim, identified as Pratima, held the position of Deputy Director at the Mines and Geology Department of Karnataka. Her lifeless body, bearing multiple stab wounds, was discovered at her home in Subramanyapora. Pratima had been residing there alongside her husband and son for the past eight years.

Tragic Discovery Made by Brother

Pratima’s lifeless body was discovered by her brother, who had arrived to visit her early Sunday morning. Concerned by his failed attempts to reach her the previous night, he decided to check on her well-being the following morning, only to be met with the disturbing sight of her lifeless body. The brother immediately alerted the authorities, providing them with details of the gruesome incident.

The victim’s driver had dropped her off at her residence after work on Saturday. It is believed that she was brutally attacked at around 8:30 pm. At the time of the murder, her husband and son were not present in their home, as they had traveled to Thirthahalli in the Shivamogga district.

DCP, South Division, Bengaluru City, Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad said, “As usual, around 8 pm on Saturday, the deceased Pratima returned home. As she did not respond to phone calls last night and this morning, her elder brother came to her house to check and got to know about her murder. He immediately informed the police.” Shahapurwad revealed that three investigation teams have been formed, with forensic and technical teams working diligently at the crime scene. Reacting to the distressing news, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his concern and assured the public that those responsible for the heinous crime would be held accountable after a thorough investigation. “I have just been informed about the incident. We will conduct a detailed inquiry into it. It appears that she was staying alone in Bengaluru while her husband was in their native village. The motive behind the murder is yet to be determined, and we will investigate thoroughly,” he stated. The police have registered a case and are making relentless efforts to apprehend the culprits. All possible leads, including the possibility of the attacker being known to the victim, are being meticulously explored by the authorities.
