Armed Robbery Suspect Joseph Fiffee Shot Dead by Police in Annandale

Accident – death – Obituary News : Armed robbery suspect Joseph Fiffee, 23, was shot dead by police during an encounter in Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Saturday. Fiffee, who was wanted for a series of armed robberies between Annandale and Non Pareil, was identified as the main suspect in the crimes.

According to preliminary investigations, an unknown caller tipped off the police that Fiffee was seen riding a bicycle in Annandale. As the police approached the area, they spotted Fiffee riding a bicycle with a cutlass wedged between the handlebars. Upon seeing the police vehicle, Fiffee attempted to flee, riding faster and turning into a nearby street. The police gave chase, but Fiffee pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at them, forcing the officers to take cover. In response, one of the police officers fired a single shot at Fiffee, hitting him in the lower back. Despite attempting to escape by scaling a fence, Fiffee collapsed and was later pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

During the investigation at the scene, two spent .25 shells, a .25 pistol with a filed-off serial number, and a magazine containing three live rounds of ammunition were discovered in a drain next to the fence where Fiffee had jumped.

Police records revealed that Fiffee and another individual were involved in seven armed robberies between Annandale and Non Pareil from October 21 to November 3, 2023. Several victims were injured during these incidents, with one individual remaining hospitalized.

This was not Fiffee’s first encounter with the law. He had previously been charged with armed robbery on April 23, 2023, and was remanded to prison until his release on August 30, 2023. In 2021, at the age of 19, Fiffee was also charged with robbing a police officer and an elderly woman in Annandale, ECD. He was once again remanded to prison. Additionally, on May 2, 2020, Fiffee was caught throwing contraband over the southern fence of the Lusignan Prison. The parcel contained cigarettes, rolling papers, a cell phone, and a charger. He was released from prison two months prior to his encounter with the police.

The police are continuing their investigation into the armed robberies Fiffee was involved in, and are urging anyone with information about these crimes to come forward..
