According to Cincinnati Police Chief Terri Theetge, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Jones Street and Wade Street. The children were innocently gathered near this junction when an unidentified individual inside a dark Sedan unleashed a hail of gunfire, firing 22 rounds in rapid succession towards the group.

Upon receiving the distress call, law enforcement officers promptly arrived at the scene, discovering six victims of the shooting. Three of them were immediately rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, two were taken to UC Medical Center, and tragically, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a press conference held on Sunday, Chief Theetge revealed the ages of the victims, which included a 12-year-old, 13-year-old, two 15-year-olds, and a 53-year-old woman. The young boy who lost his life was identified as an 11-year-old. While the authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, family members were present during the emotional press conference, where Isaac Davis, the grieving father of the deceased child, pleaded for the responsible party to come forward.

It was revealed that two of the victims were students of Cincinnati College Prep Academy, including the 11-year-old who tragically lost his life. Additionally, three victims attended Cincinnati Public Schools. Chief Theetge provided an update on Sunday morning, stating that one shooting victim remains hospitalized but is now in stable condition.

She stated, “To the person or persons responsible for this, turn yourself in because we will find you and bring you to justice.”

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval expressed his shock and grief over the incident, emphasizing that the victims were simply a group of children playing outside their homes when a senseless act of violence shattered their innocence. He referred to the perpetrator as a “madman” who callously fired rounds into a group of defenseless children.

Despite the horrifying nature of the incident, Chief Theetge reassured the community that there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat. However, the investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to apprehend the responsible party and ensure the safety of the community.
