Accident – Death – Obituary News : Woman Arrested in Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash in St. George

St. George, Utah – A tragic auto-pedestrian accident occurred on Friday, resulting in the death of a man at the same intersection where his sister was killed just two days earlier. Brianna Leigh Waters, a 28-year-old pickup truck driver, has been arrested and booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility in connection with the incident.

Waters faces several charges, including negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death, driving under the influence with two or more priors in 10 years, possession of a controlled substance schedule I/II/analog, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held without bail pending further investigation.

The St. George Police Department (SGPD) responded to the scene on Bluff Street at 8:47 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian. According to witnesses, the driver failed to stop at a red light before colliding with the pedestrian. Despite efforts by officers and medical staff to save the victim’s life, he succumbed to his injuries caused by the impact.

Waters exhibited signs commonly associated with drug use when approached by SGPD officers. She displayed fidgety hands, had dilated pupils, and appeared nervous and agitated. Her bloodshot and glossy eyes further raised suspicion. Initially denying any drug use, Waters later admitted to using cocaine a week prior to the accident. A urine test confirmed the presence of cocaine, while blood test results are still pending.

In her statement, Waters confessed to using cocaine just before leaving her house, only 30 minutes before the fatal collision. When questioned about her decision to drive under the influence, she acknowledged considering it a bad idea due to her recent drug use but believed she could get away with it since she did not have alcohol on her breath.

The SGPD has confirmed that the pedestrian killed on Friday is the brother of the woman who lost her life in another auto-pedestrian crash at the same intersection just two days earlier. The names of the victims have not been released, and no arrests have been made in connection with the Wednesday incident.

These tragic incidents have deeply affected the families involved, and the SGPD extends its condolences to them. Both cases remain under investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

The St. George community mourns the loss of two lives in such a short span of time, raising concerns about pedestrian safety and the need for heightened vigilance on the roads. As investigations continue, it is hoped that justice will be served and measures will be taken to prevent similar accidents in the future.
