Death – Obituary News : Lira City Mayor, Michael Ogwal Achonga, has passed away, causing deep sadness among the Bank of Uganda (BoU) board of directors, management, and staff. The BoU expressed their condolences to the family of the late mayor.

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

The Bank of Uganda (BoU) board of directors, management, and staff are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of the mayor of Lira City, West Division, the late Mr. Michael Ogwal Achonga.

Mr. Achonga was an esteemed figure in the city of Lira and his sudden demise has left a void in the hearts of many. Born on 15th June 1965, he dedicated his life to serving the people of Lira and was a prominent advocate for development and progress in the community.

The late mayor had a remarkable journey in politics, starting his career as a councillor in the early 1990s. His commitment to public service and his unwavering dedication to the betterment of his constituents propelled him to become the mayor of Lira City, a position he held with great pride and responsibility.

During his tenure, Mr. Achonga spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in Lira. He championed infrastructure development, education, and healthcare, ensuring that the city’s residents had access to basic amenities and services. His efforts were widely recognized and appreciated by the community he served.

Beyond his political achievements, Mr. Achonga was known for his humility and compassion. He was a man of the people, always willing to lend a helping hand and provide support to those in need. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
