Born in Durban, South Africa, on March 3, 1940, Prof. Coovadia dedicated his life to improving healthcare and combating the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Natal and went on to complete his postgraduate training in pediatrics in the United Kingdom.
