A tragic incident occurred in Northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura, where a 36-year-old man named Harpreet Gill was fatally shot, while his relative suffered injuries, after a group of five men opened fire on them without any provocation. Gill, who worked as a senior manager for the e-commerce platform Amazon, lost his life in the attack. The assailants swiftly fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of devastation.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on Tuesday when five unidentified individuals unleashed gunfire on Harpreet Gill (36) and his relative, Govind Singh (32), in Subhash Vihar. Gill was shot in the head and was declared dead upon arrival at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, while his relative was taken to LNJP Hospital for treatment, as informed by the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey revealed that the two friends were riding a motorcycle when they were ambushed. Gill, a resident of Bhajanpura, held a senior managerial position at Amazon. The bullet entered Gill’s head from the right side behind his ear and exited from the other side. The hospital’s report confirmed his cause of death as a gunshot injury to the head, with the entry wound located behind his right ear. On the other hand, his friend Govind Singh sustained a bullet injury to his right ear.
Singh, who also resides in Bhajanpura and owns a local eatery called ‘Hungry Momos,’ was shot in the head and admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, as stated by the DCP.
As the authorities delve into the investigation, they are meticulously examining the CCTV footage from the vicinity to piece together the sequence of events. The motive behind this unfortunate incident remains unknown at this point, and law enforcement is conducting further examinations to unravel the truth.
DCP Tirkey confirmed the registration of a case, while the motive behind the murder remains unclear. “The reason behind the shooting incident is under investigation,” stated the DCP.
According to the police, six teams have been assembled to work on the case. Initial inquiries suggest that an argument ensued between the two parties before the shooting occurred.
Singh informed the police that the assailants appeared to be in the age group of 18 to 19 years. During the ongoing investigation, the name of a local criminal named Maya has emerged as one of the suspects, as per police reports.
Meanwhile, Gill’s parents are seeking justice for their son and demanding strict action against his killers. “Around 10:30 pm on Tuesday, Harpreet informed his mother that he was going out and would have dinner later. My brother-in-law was also accompanying him when the incident took place,” said Karnail Singh, the father of the deceased.
