death – Obituary News : A devastating tragedy has struck a London household, as they mourn the loss of their son in a fatal crash just six days after the death of his grandfather. Nathan Lee, a 17-year-old student at Mom Teresa Catholic secondary school, was one of two teenagers who lost their lives in a two-vehicle collision at an intersection north of London. The intersection has been a cause for concern for nearby residents, who have long expressed worries about its safety.

The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 9:30 p.m., when the vehicle in which Lee was a passenger collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Ilderton Road and Wonderland Road North in Middlesex Centre. The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. While the police have not officially released the identities of the victims, several social media sources have confirmed that Nathan Lee was tragically killed in the crash.

The Lee family has been dealing with consecutive losses, as they had to postpone the visitation for Nathan’s grandfather, Walter McManus, who passed away on August 14. The family expressed their deep sadness over the untimely death of Nathan Lee. He is survived by his parents, Todd and Bessie Lee, and his brother Nick. To help cover the expenses of the teenager’s funeral, a GoFundMe account was set up, which has already raised over $16,000 as of Monday afternoon.

The news of Nathan Lee’s death has left the community in shock and mourning. A close family friend took to social media to express their sorrow, describing it as the worst possible situation to lose a child. The devastating loss of young lives in traffic accidents has become a recurring tragedy in the London area. Just last December, two 17-year-old girls lost their lives, while three others were injured in a single-vehicle crash between Komoka and Strathroy.

The investigation into Saturday’s crash is still ongoing, according to Middlesex OPP. They are urging anyone with information about the incident or any dash cam footage that may be helpful to come forward and contact Middlesex OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Meanwhile, residents living near the intersection where the crash occurred have voiced their concerns about its dangerous conditions. Beverly and Beverley Hughes, who have been residing at the intersection of Ilderton and Wonderland roads for five decades, rushed to the scene after hearing what they initially thought was a car backfiring. The couple has long been worried about the intersection’s high traffic volume, with drivers frequently speeding and disregarding the two-way stop on Wonderland Road.

“We’ve had about one accident every six weeks here,” shared Beverley. “The last major one was back in December, where seven people were injured.” The installation of traffic lights at the intersection was planned for last year but was delayed due to the pandemic. However, preparations for the installation have been underway in recent weeks, with crews seen setting up pylons at each corner.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures at intersections and a stronger focus on preventing accidents that claim the lives of young individuals. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Nathan Lee and offers support to his grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.
