Yvonne Bailey: A Resilient Fighter Who Lost Her Battle with Parkinson’s Disease

Corning, New York – Yvonne M. Bailey (née Mayo), a courageous woman who fought valiantly against Parkinson’s disease, sadly passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the age of 75. Yvonne, a beloved resident of Corning, New York, took her last breath at Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a prolonged battle with the debilitating ailment.

Yvonne’s journey began on April 20th, 1948, when she was born to Madeline (Flint) Cassavino and Harvey Mayo in Hornell, New York. Her parents, filled with hope and dreams, welcomed their precious daughter into the world. Yvonne, a name they carefully chose, would leave an indelible mark on the lives she touched.

A Life of Passion and Dedication

Yvonne’s educational journey led her to receive a diploma from Addison Central School in 1966, marking her graduation from the esteemed institution. However, it was her unwavering passion for the hotel industry that defined her life’s work. From a young age, she aspired to pursue her dream job, which ultimately became her reality.

Embarking on her professional journey as a teenager, Yvonne found her first job at the Gang Mills Diner, a beloved family-owned restaurant. This opportunity ignited her passion for the restaurant industry, leading her to further her career at renowned establishments such as the Flaming Pit and Maxwell’s.

However, it was at Pierri’s Central Restaurant where Yvonne truly found her calling, dedicating four decades of her life to the establishment. Sadly, in July 2020, Pierri’s Central Restaurant closed its doors for the last time, ending a century and a half of culinary excellence. Yvonne’s unwavering commitment to her work and immense contribution to the restaurant will forever be remembered.

A Heart for Community and Family

After retiring, Yvonne sought to give back to her community and began volunteering at the Corning Senior Center. Her selflessness and dedication to helping others shone through as she devoted her time and energy to making a positive impact on the lives of seniors in Corning.

Beyond her professional and community commitments, Yvonne cherished spending quality time with her loved ones. Whether it was dining out at local restaurants, indulging in retail therapy during shopping trips, or enjoying the soothing melodies of music, Yvonne’s greatest joy came from creating treasured memories with those she held dear.

Her travels to Maryland were often accompanied by her grandkids and great-grandchildren, creating lasting bonds and unforgettable adventures. Fondly known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren, Yvonne will forever be remembered as a loving and gentle soul. Her resilience, kindness, and unwavering work ethic were admired by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In a world filled with challenges, Yvonne always put the needs of others before her own. Her legacy serves as a testament to the power of compassion and the impact one person can make in the lives of many. Although she may be gone, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
