It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Davie Griffith, a beloved member of our community and a cherished husband, father, and friend. Davie’s journey on this earth may have come to an end on June 21, 2023, but his legacy and impact will forever be remembered.

Born on September 7, 1934, in a humble log cabin nestled in the undulating hills of southern Illinois, Davie Griffith entered this world as the third child and third son of Floyd and Helen Wiley Griffith. His birthplace held a special significance as it was also the birthplace of the community of Anna, founded by his great-great-grandfather, Winstead Davie. In a beautiful tribute to his wife, Davie named the community after her, forever intertwining their love story with the history of the place they called home.

Davie’s love story began in high school when he met his sweetheart, Carol Lee Holtz. They were inseparable, and their bond grew stronger over the years. On September 3, 1955, Davie and Carol exchanged vows, marking the beginning of a sixty-eight-year journey as husband and wife. Their love and commitment stood the test of time, and Carol remained the one and only love of Davie’s life.

In 1953, a significant turning point occurred in Davie’s life. During a revival at the Methodist Church, he had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ, which led to his conversion. This newfound faith became a guiding light for Davie throughout his life, shaping his values and influencing the way he treated others.

Although Davie’s dreams of continuing his education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale were interrupted by his service in the Army during the Korean War, he fulfilled his duty to his country with utmost dedication. Six years of service shaped his character, instilling in him a deep sense of honor and sacrifice.

Davie and Carol’s union resulted in the blessing of three children: Davie Kevin Griffith of Oregon, Tamara Lynn (Lee) Kittle of New York, and Todd David Griffith of Bloomington. Each child was named after their loving father, a testament to the profound impact he had on their lives.

The Griffith household was not only a loving home for their biological children but also a sanctuary for six foster children whom they took in and raised as their own. Davie and Carol’s generosity extended beyond their own family, as they opened their doors to numerous individuals in need of support and care.

Davie’s career with General Telephone spanned an impressive four decades, a testament to his dedication and expertise. His contributions to the company were invaluable, and his professionalism earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues.

At one point in his career, Davie’s family was relocated to the Bloomington region, where they embraced a new chapter of their lives. The allegedly haunted “hills of hom” became their sanctuary, witnessing the love and warmth that filled their home.

Davie Griffith’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy as a devoted husband, loving father, and selfless friend will forever be etched in our memories. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time, holding them in our thoughts and prayers.
