death – Obituary News : KUCHING, August 19 — Seliman Bandang, who was officially recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the oldest living man in the country in 2021, sadly passed away today at the remarkable age of 113.

The news of Seliman’s passing was confirmed by his son, Tuai Rumah Mulok Seliman, who revealed that his father had been undergoing treatment at Saratok Hospital for the past few days due to illness.

“At 5.20 am this morning (August 19), our beloved father took his last breath, and his body has been brought back to our longhouse in Klua Krian, Saratok,” Mulok shared.

Seliman leaves behind a legacy, survived by two children, nine grandchildren, and an astonishing 23 great-grandchildren. His funeral has been scheduled for the morning of August 22 at the Klua Christian Cemetery.

The passing of Seliman has deeply saddened Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, who had recently visited him at the hospital on August 16. Expressing his condolences, Duri took to Facebook to pay tribute to Seliman and offer his support to the grieving family.

“Seliman was not only a close friend of my late father, but our families have been intertwined and supported each other for generations, dating back to the past,” Duri reflected. “I have fond memories of playing at his longhouse during my childhood.”

In an article published by the Borneo Post on August 29, 2021, it was revealed that Seliman, hailing from Tenggalat in Saratok, was born on March 21, 1910. His incredible longevity was acknowledged and celebrated during a livestream event hosted by the MBR on its Facebook page.

During the livestream, Seliman’s grandson, Michael Bandang, shared his secret to a long and happy life, stating that his grandfather always prioritized happiness and lived a stress-free existence. Michael also mentioned that the family ensured Seliman had balanced and nutritious meals.

Prior reports highlighted that Seliman’s status as Malaysia’s oldest living man came to light in 2021 when he arrived for his Covid-19 vaccination in Saratok in June of that year. His remarkable age garnered significant attention and admiration from the public.

The passing of Seliman Bandang marks the end of an era for his family and the community of Klua Krian. His extraordinary lifespan and the wisdom he shared will forever be remembered, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him and the nation as a whole.
