Kevin Conroy’s portrayal of Batman has left an indelible mark on comic book enthusiasts over the years. When news of his passing spread, Twitter was flooded with tributes from fans mourning the loss of a true legend. Users expressed their grief and paid their respects to Conroy’s incredible work as the iconic Dark Knight.

You will be missed, Kevin Conroy, and you’ll always be Batman.”

Before his acclaimed role as Batman, Kevin Conroy’s acting career began in the theater. Born on November 30, 1955, Conroy received a scholarship at the Juilliard School’s drama division in 1973 and graduated in 1978. He subsequently joined John Houseman’s acting company, The Acting Company, and embarked on a nationwide tour of Ira Levin’s play Deathtrap.

In 1980, Conroy made his way to California, where he secured a recurring role on the daytime soap opera Another World. He also appeared in various theatrical productions, including Hamlet and other modern and classic plays. Conroy returned to television in 1985 with the TV movie Covenant, and went on to star in shows such as Dynasty, Ohara, Tour of Duty, Cheers, Search for Tomorrow, Matlock, and many others.

However, it was his portrayal of Batman in the 1992 television series Batman: The Animated Series that catapulted Conroy to stardom. He continued to voice the DC superhero in subsequent episodes and films, including The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero. Apart from his acting career, Conroy also contributed to relief operations following the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City by cooking for police officers and firefighters. He reprised his role as Batman in the 2014 video game Batman: Arkham Knight.

Conroy also appeared in Tim Daly’s online series, where he portrayed Batman in a battle against Daly’s Superman. He later made a guest appearance as Bruce Wayne from Earth-99 in an episode of Batwoman. Conroy, who openly identified as homosexual, published a highly acclaimed novel earlier this year titled Finding Batman, which delved into his life and experiences as a gay man. The story was featured in DC Comics’ annual LGBTQIA+-themed anthology.
