“Tragic Accident in Kanchanaburi: 6-Year-Old Boy Among 5 Myanmar Nationals Hurt”

A woman was killed and five Myanmar nationals were injured in an accident in Kanchanaburi. The crash occurred when a pickup truck collided with the back of a truck loaded with wood. The injured passengers, who were migrants from Myanmar, were trapped inside the pickup truck and had to be rescued by emergency workers. The pickup driver, identified as a Myanmar national, may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The incident was captured on surveillance video. Piyarach Chongcharoen reported

In Kanchanaburi, a woman lost her life while five other individuals from Myanmar were injured when the pickup truck they were traveling in collided with the rear of a wood-loaded truck in Muang district early on Wednesday morning.

The fatal incident took place on Highway 323, outside the provincial transport office in Tambon Kaeng Sian. Pol Capt Thammawat Sukhueewat, deputy investigation chief at Muang district police station, was notified at approximately 5:20 am.

Upon arrival, the police, medical staff, and rescue workers discovered a heavily damaged pickup truck with Surat Thani license plates on the sidewalk. Inside, one woman was deceased, and five injured individuals were trapped.

The deceased woman was found embracing an unconscious six-year-old boy.

Rescue workers utilized hydraulic jacks to forcefully open one of the pickup truck’s doors in order to extract everyone from the wreckage. The injured individuals were promptly transported to a hospital.

Investigating officers found documents indicating that the passengers were migrant workers from Myanmar who were employed in Samut Sakhon.

Approximately 30 meters away from the scene, a 10-wheel truck carrying wood and bearing Nakhon Pathom license plates was discovered with severe damage to its rear. The truck driver, Chad Bovornthanasarn, was awaiting the arrival of the police.

During questioning, Mr. Chad revealed that he was transporting wood to Ratchaburi when he heard a loud crash at the rear of his truck as he approached the Kaeng Sian intersection. He speculated that the pickup truck driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Surveillance footage showed the pickup truck colliding with the back of the 10-wheeler. The pickup driver appeared not to have applied the brakes.

The driver, identified as Ka Thet Mon, a national of Myanmar, will be questioned by the police once his condition improves.
