The Sumter Police Department announced on Tuesday that the manhunt for a suspect involved in a fatal shooting has come to a conclusion, as the assailant turned himself in. Travis Jermaine Wright, a 43-year-old resident of Sumter, surrendered at the police department and is now facing charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as stated in a press release. Wright had been sought in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Adrian NaBryce McCray, which occurred on August 5. The incident took place in the downtown Sumter area, near the A&P Coastal Mart convenience store on Boulevard Road. McCray was discovered lying on the ground and was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where he tragically passed away later that day in the presence of his family. Fortunately, no other individuals sustained injuries during the incident. The police investigation revealed that Wright, an acquaintance of McCray, was in the vicinity of the store at the time of the shooting and was later identified as the perpetrator. Following an intensive two-week search, Wright ultimately turned himself in. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
