“Kent Man Sentenced to Nearly a Decade in Prison for Fatal Collision with Bellingham Woman’s Vehicle”

A man from Kent, Washington, has been sentenced to nearly a decade in prison for causing a fatal car crash that resulted in the death of a woman. Teofilo Garcia Uribe, 37, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by way of reckless driving. The incident occurred on January 6, when Uribe’s vehicle collided with the victim’s car, causing it to burst into flames. Uribe was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison. He will also serve a year and a half of probation and have his driver’s license revoked for two years after his release. Denver Pratt reported

A man from Kent, Washington, has been sentenced to nearly ten years in prison after causing a fatal car accident. Teofilo Garcia Uribe, 37, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide resulting from reckless driving. He collided with a vehicle driven by Tarria K. Conger, causing it to immediately burst into flames and resulting in her death. Uribe was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison, along with a year and a half of probation.

Uribe’s sentence was determined after the prosecutor and his public defense attorney presented a recommended sentence of 110 months in prison. The court considered Uribe’s level of recklessness, which led to the tragic death of another person. Despite the high standard range for his conviction, the judge acknowledged that Uribe took responsibility for his actions quickly.

The collision occurred on January 6, when Uribe’s white Dodge Ram collided with Conger’s red Saturn Ion at a high rate of speed. The force of the impact caused Conger’s car to burst into flames, and Uribe continued to push the burning car until reaching an intersection. Uribe then fled the scene at a high speed. He was later identified as the driver of the Dodge Ram and was arrested.

In a presentence report, Uribe’s attorney described his difficult upbringing as the son of immigrant farm workers in California. Uribe had a troubled childhood, being recruited by a gang at a young age. He spent much of his youth in juvenile detention facilities and did not complete his education. However, Uribe’s family stated that they noticed a positive change in him after he relocated to Washington and was working towards a better life.

Uribe expressed remorse for his actions and the pain he caused Conger’s family. He stated that he had no intention of harming anyone and deeply regrets the decisions that led to the fatal crash. Although he knows he cannot undo the damage, he will carry the memory with him for the rest of his life.

In addition to his prison sentence, Uribe will not be allowed to possess or consume alcohol, and his driver’s license will be revoked for two years following his release. Restitution is not being sought in this case..
