The incident unfolded shortly before 2 p.m. when law enforcement received reports of a man, wearing a blue shirt and black shorts, attempting to break into a vehicle in a parking lot close to Baseline and Rural roads. Upon arrival, the officers spotted an individual matching the given description. However, they momentarily lost sight of him. Subsequently, two officers conducted a thorough search of the vicinity and eventually discovered the suspect crouching down in an underground stairwell adjacent to a nearby establishment.

According to Tempe police officials, the officers instructed Andreyo to reveal his hands, which were concealed inside a backpack. While one officer had drawn their firearm, the other had switched to a less-lethal Taser. At this point, Andreyo allegedly retrieved a gun from the backpack and aimed it at the officers. In response, the suspect and the officer engaged in a gunfight, resulting in Andreyo getting shot.

The wounded suspect was then assisted by officers and a K-9 to ascend the stairs, after which he was promptly transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, Andreyo was pronounced dead at the medical facility. Fortunately, none of the officers sustained any injuries during the incident.

This occurrence marks the 44th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the 57th in the state of Arizona this year.
