Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to an abdominal strain, just before the US Open. He had previously withdrawn from the Canadian Open with the same issue. Murray expressed concern about making the injury worse if he continued to play. He is currently ranked 36th in the world and has been included in Great Britain’s Davis Cup squad for the finals. Murray will join Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, and Neal Skupski in the squad. Sky Sports reported

Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a strain in his abdomen, just days before the US Open is set to begin. The former World No 1, who has previously triumphed in Cincinnati and won three major titles at Flushing Meadows, had also pulled out of the Canadian Open recently due to the same injury. Murray stated that although this injury is not as severe as one he experienced last year, it still poses a risk of aggravation if he were to compete. As a result, Murray has decided to withdraw from his upcoming match against Karen Khachanov.

Khachanov, who hasn’t played since losing in the quarter-finals of the Roland Garros, will now face a lucky loser instead of Murray. Currently ranked 36th in the world, Murray has steadily climbed up the rankings since his hip resurfacing surgery in 2019. The US Open is scheduled to commence on August 28, and will be broadcasted live on Sky Sports.

In other news, Murray has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup finals in Manchester. Despite being left out of the squad earlier this year, Murray has been given the opportunity to compete alongside Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, and Neal Skupski. This decision comes after Murray played a crucial role in Great Britain’s historic Davis Cup victory in 2015. The team will be aiming to qualify for the knockout stage in Malaga in November, with matches against Australia, France, and Switzerland taking place from September 12 to 17..
