A man in Jackson County, Iowa, died at a campground near Maquoketa. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an unresponsive man who had been pulled from the Maquoketa River. Despite attempts to save him, the 28-year-old man, identified as Brandon Lee George, was declared dead at the scene. The incident occurred on August 11th at approximately 12:18 p.m. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to a distress call reporting an unresponsive man who had been retrieved from the nearby Maquoketa River. The Maquoketa Fire Department and the Jackson County Regional Healthcare Ambulance Service were also dispatched to the scene to offer assistance.

Despite the efforts made by emergency responders to revive the individual, he was pronounced dead on site. The deceased has been identified as Brandon Lee George, aged 28. It appears that George was engaged in maintenance work along the riverbank and had been out of sight for approximately half an hour prior to the incident.
In order to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, an investigation is currently underway. The Jackson County Medical Examiner, in collaboration with the sheriff’s office, is actively overseeing the inquiry..
