A man from Florida with an extensive criminal record has been apprehended after a minor traffic violation.

In accordance with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies noticed a white Mazda 3 in the parking lot of a convenience store in Bunnell, situated approximately 20 miles north of Daytona Beach, at around noon on Sunday, August 6.

The passenger window of the vehicle had a darker tint than allowed by Florida law.

The deputies activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to pull over the driver as the car exited the lot, but it took the driver 48 seconds to comply, as indicated in the police report.

After the driver eventually complied, he was identified as Christopher Heath. The 40-year-old man from Palm Coast has a lengthy criminal record in Flagler County, including previous arrests for battery, grand theft, and resisting an officer with violence, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office regarding the incident.

The police report states that when Heath exited his vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected.

The suspect consented to a search of his car, during which deputies discovered a small orange container commonly used by medical professionals for pill distribution in the center console.

The defendant claimed that the bottle contained “Bag Balm” moisturizer given to him by his mother, according to the affidavit. However, a field test revealed that the golden brown oily substance tested positive for fentanyl and THC. Additionally, a torch and scale typically associated with narcotics usage were found in the vehicle.

As he was about to be arrested, Heath informed the deputies that he believed he was having a heart attack and required medical attention.

“He was assessed on the scene by medical personnel, but his actions and demeanor prevented a proper evaluation,” stated the Facebook post.

Heath was subsequently taken to the hospital, and after being “medically cleared,” he was transported to the Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on $1,000 bail.

At the time of his arrest, Heath was on federal probation, and he is now facing charges of fentanyl and hashish possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to comply with law enforcement.

“This individual, who peddles poison, is a repeat offender and needs to learn his lesson,” stated Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly in a statement. “It is time for him to turn his life around or face significant jail time.”
