According to the Person County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, identified as Jeffrey McKay, immediately stopped his vehicle and contacted emergency services. However, the father of the injured child, in a shocking turn of events, pulled out a firearm and shot McKay. The driver was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Remarkably, after the shooting, the mother and father entered McKay’s truck and fled the scene, leaving their deceased child behind. Law enforcement authorities were able to locate the truck at the family’s residence, leading to the arrest of the father, Chad Woods. Woods has been charged with second-degree murder and motor vehicle theft. The mother, on the other hand, has not faced any charges according to the sheriff’s office.
