Troopers in Polk County are searching for a driver who allegedly crashed into another vehicle after speeding. The incident occurred on Ronald Reagan Parkway and Pine Tree Trail. The driver of a red Ford Mustang was caught going nearly 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. When a trooper attempted to pursue the Mustang, the driver turned off their lights and escaped. The Mustang later crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder at an intersection. One passenger was found in the back seat, but the driver and another passenger fled the scene. Authorities are still searching for the driver, identified as Ramon Santiago-Garcia. The passengers of both vehicles were taken to local hospitals, and their conditions are unknown. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a trooper was stationed on Ronald Reagan Parkway near Champions Gate Boulevard, conducting radar speed enforcement, when a red 2015 Ford Mustang passed by at an alarming speed of approximately 80 mph in a zone limited to 45 mph. Upon witnessing this, the trooper activated his emergency lights to enter traffic. However, the driver of the Mustang promptly switched off their lights and accelerated away. Unable to keep up with the fleeing vehicle, the trooper abandoned the pursuit and lost sight of the Mustang.
Upon reaching the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and Pine Tree Trail, the trooper discovered that the Mustang had collided with a Nissan Pathfinder. While a passenger was found in the back seat of the Mustang, the driver and another passenger had managed to escape. Fortunately, Polk County deputies were able to locate the passenger who had fled, but the driver remains at large.
The driver has been identified as Ramon Santiago-Garcia, an 18-year-old resident of Haines City. The passengers were described as two males, aged 15 and 17 years old. Both the occupants of the Mustang and the individuals in the Pathfinder, two women aged 21 and 22, were transported to local hospitals. Their current medical conditions have not been disclosed.
