In New Castle, Indiana, a juvenile suspect named Quinton Marqtez Vann, who was 13 years old at the time, has been charged as an adult for the murder of a man in Henry County earlier this year. The court has determined that it is in the best interest of both the juvenile and the community for him to be tried as an adult. The shooting occurred on May 2 near South 21st Street and A Avenue, where police initially believed the victim had been involved in a hit-and-run accident. However, further investigation revealed that the man, Ernest Thornsberry Jr., had actually been shot in the head and later died in the hospital. According to court documents, Thornsberry had been confronted by a group of juveniles, including Vann, who had been insulting him and throwing rocks. Despite Thornsberry’s attempts to get them to leave him alone, Vann pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, fatally hitting Thornsberry. Witnesses reported seeing the juveniles in the area before the shooting and fleeing afterwards. When initially questioned by police, Vann denied any involvement, but eventually confessed to the crime and revealed the location where he had hidden the gun. A friend had obtained the gun from his stepfather’s home and gave it to Vann. The suspect is currently being held in a juvenile facility and his trial has been scheduled for November 27.
