The unfortunate event occurred on Saturday, and the victim, identified as John Alvin Schwiewek, 81 years old, was walking on the east sidewalk of Turner Road Southeast when he was hit by a tractor truck hauling a refrigerated trailer. The driver of the semi, John Lee Griffin, 62 years old, was exiting the Walmart parking lot and making a northward turn when the collision occurred. Emergency responders were alerted to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. Following the incident, Griffin has been cooperative with the ongoing investigation and is adhering to the requirements for commercial drivers.
