“Road Rage Incident in the Keys: Miami Couple Charged with Battery and Attempted Murder”

A Miami couple is facing charges after an alleged road rage incident in the Florida Keys. Mario Pichardo, 59, has been charged with battery, while his wife Damarys Pichardo, 54, has been charged with attempted murder. The incident occurred early Saturday morning and involved a physical fight between Pichardo and the driver of another pickup truck. Damarys Pichardo pulled out a handgun during the altercation, but the weapon did not fire. The couple is currently in jail awaiting further legal action. A married couple from Miami is currently facing charges after being involved in an alleged traffic altercation that resulted from road rage. The incident occurred near Mile Marker 26 in the Keys around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. Mario Barbado Pichard, 59, has been charged with battery, while his wife, Damarys Pichardo, 54, has been charged with attempted murder. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case.

According to law enforcement officials, the couple was driving a Ford pickup truck that collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck. Pichardo, who was driving the Ford, initiated a physical fight with the other driver, a 38-year-old man from Marathon. During the altercation, Pichardo’s wife pulled out a 380-caliber handgun and called 911. Dispatchers overheard the man making threats to kill the Chevy’s driver, and he was also heard questioning why the gun was not loaded or firing, despite pulling the trigger multiple times. It was later discovered that the handgun had a loaded magazine, but no round was chambered at the time.

Sheriff Rick Ramsay referred to the incident as an “unfortunate crash” that should have been resolved peacefully. He emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle disputes and avoid resorting to violence.

As of Saturday evening, it remains unclear whether the couple has posted bail..
