Ramirez was apprehended after stealing a vehicle from the L.A. Department of Water and Power. The pursuit began in the Pacoima area, where Ramirez led authorities on a brief chase along the southbound 5 Freeway. During the pursuit, Ramirez attempted to ram officers and other drivers before exiting and entering a parking lot off Colorado Boulevard. As officers followed him into the lot, Ramirez intentionally drove his vehicle towards them, crashing into the doors of two police cruisers and a nearby van. Shots were fired at Ramirez as he narrowly missed hitting officers and other patrol vehicles. Eventually, Ramirez came to a stop near Edenhurst Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, where officers and SWAT Team vehicles surrounded the stolen SUV. A standoff ensued as Ramirez barricaded himself inside the vehicle and refused to surrender. Approximately two hours later, Ramirez climbed out of the SUV’s rear window and onto the roof, where he was taken into custody. He appeared to be injured and was bleeding heavily at the time. Ramirez was struck by gunfire during the incident and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital. After being released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $152,000.
