Rescuers have found two more bodies from the rubble of a landslide in Gaurikund, bringing the death toll to seven. Sixteen people are still missing. The search operation, hindered by rain and falling boulders, is being carried out by the NDRF, SDRF, and the Yatra Management Force. The affected area, located between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, is known for its landslide vulnerability. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has called for prompt relief and rescue efforts, as well as the evacuation of people living in landslide-prone areas. PTI reported

In Rudraprayag, the aftermath of a devastating landslide that occurred on August 4 continues to unfold. Recent efforts by rescue teams have resulted in the recovery of two additional bodies from the debris, bringing the death toll to seven, with 16 individuals still unaccounted for. The victims have been identified as Anita Bohra, a 25-year-old woman, and Jatil, an eight-year-old boy.

The search operation, led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Yatra Management Force, is now in its ninth day. However, the rescue efforts have faced numerous challenges due to intermittent rain and the constant danger posed by falling boulders from the surrounding hillsides.

The incident occurred near Daat Puliya, close to a rain-fed waterfall and approximately 50 meters above the Mandakini river, which was already swollen. This particular stretch, spanning nearly six kilometers between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, is known for its high susceptibility to landslides.

In response to the situation, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has urged officials to expedite relief and rescue operations at the site. He emphasized the importance of issuing alerts in areas vulnerable to flooding caused by rising water levels in rivers and streams. Furthermore, Dhami instructed authorities to evacuate individuals residing in regions prone to landslides.

Efforts to mitigate the impact of this tragic event are ongoing, as rescue teams persist in their mission despite the challenging circumstances..
