The Browns suffered a defeat in their second preseason game, losing 17-15 to the Commanders at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The match was delayed for 68 minutes due to rain and lightning, but once the game started, the Browns fielded most of their key players, including quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson, although he only played for one drive, showed composure by leading the offense deep into the red zone. He completed all three of his pass attempts for 12 yards and also rushed for 20 yards on three carries. Unfortunately, the drive ended without any points as the Browns failed to convert on a fourth-and-goal situation.

Despite the loss, there were some positive moments for the Browns, such as Watson’s impressive scrambles and an 18-yard run by wide receiver Elijah Moore. Moore also caught a pass for 6 yards. However, after the starters left the game, Moore suffered a rib injury and had to be accompanied by trainers back to the locker room. X-Rays were taken, but thankfully, the results came back negative.

The Browns’ defensive starters made an impact early in the game by scoring the team’s first points on a safety caused by a holding penalty committed by the Commanders in the end zone. However, the Commanders responded with touchdowns on their next two drives, taking a 14-2 lead into halftime. Browns safety Ronnie Hickman had a standout performance, intercepting two passes during the game. His first interception came just before halftime against Commanders quarterback Jacoby Brissett, and his second came in the fourth quarter against Commanders quarterback Jake Fromm.

In the second half, quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson took over for the Browns and led a drive that resulted in a missed 46-yard field goal attempt by kicker Cade York. On his second drive, Thompson-Robinson guided the offense 75 yards down the field, culminating in a 7-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver David Bell. Thompson-Robinson finished the day with an impressive stat line of 9 completions on 10 attempts for 102 yards, earning a passer rating of 102 and throwing one touchdown.

With less than 2 minutes remaining in the game, the Browns had an opportunity to tie the score when quarterback Kellen Mond connected with Mike Harley Jr. for a 20-yard touchdown. However, the Browns had to attempt a 2-point conversion to level the game, but Mond’s pass on the play fell incomplete.
