The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into a homicide that occurred on August 11, 2023, in Henry County, Virginia. In the late afternoon of that day, a male individual with an apparent gunshot wound was brought to SOVAH Health of Danville by a friend. Tragically, the victim, identified as Antwain Royqwell-Garifield Hampton, a 24-year-old resident of Hampton Circle in Axton, VA, succumbed to his injuries.

Upon learning of the incident, investigators from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office arrived at SOVAH Health Danville and interviewed the friend who brought Mr. Hampton to the hospital. It was determined that the incident took place at 7064 Axton Rd. in Axton, VA, which falls within Henry County jurisdiction. Consequently, the Pittsylvania Sheriff’s Office promptly notified the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and investigators from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the scene at 7064 Axton Rd., taking immediate measures to secure the area. Given the uncertainty regarding the presence of potential suspects within the residence, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was deployed and executed a search warrant. However, it was subsequently established that the house was unoccupied. Throughout the night, the diligent investigators from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office meticulously processed the scene, gathering crucial evidence.
