A Florida deputy, Deputy Nick Huzior, felt dizzy, had a racing heart, and lost feeling in his legs after being exposed to suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop. The substance tested positive for fentanyl and the suspect was arrested for various charges. Huzior received medical treatment and is recovering. A video released by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on Friday showed a Florida deputy experiencing severe symptoms after being exposed to suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop. Deputy Nick Huzior reported feeling dizzy, having a racing heart, and eventually losing sensation in his legs. The incident occurred after Huzior tested a white powdery substance found in a suspect’s car, which later tested positive for fentanyl. The suspect, George Clemons, was arrested for reckless driving, DUI, possession of fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana, as well as leaving the scene of a crash.

Following the exposure, Deputy Huzior sought medical assistance and informed Deputy First Class Kyle Gaddie of his symptoms. Huzior expressed feeling lightheaded and experiencing a rapid heartbeat. Emergency responders arrived and provided Huzior with two doses of Narcan before transporting him to a hospital. Fortunately, Huzior was released later and is currently in the process of recovery.

Sheriff Rick Staly emphasized the dangers faced by law enforcement officers on a daily basis due to the presence of dangerous substances like fentanyl on the streets. He expressed gratitude for the well-trained deputies and the availability of Narcan, which potentially saved Huzior’s life. Additionally, Staly thanked the individuals who stopped to offer assistance to Huzior and Gaddie, as well as Flagler County Fire Rescue and AdventHealth Palm Coast for their care..
