On Thursday, two individuals lost their lives in a residential area of Adams County. Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten referred to the incident as a “bold and unexpected ambush-style murder,” as reported by WLBT.
The victims have been identified as Brandon Brooks, aged 26, and Taron Woods, aged 24. Both men sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to their injuries at the scene shortly before 6 p.m.
As law enforcement deputies reached the location on Myrtle Street, the community witnessed a rapid influx of friends, family, and neighbors who gathered to comprehend the shocking events. With the crowd swelling into the hundreds, Natchez City police were called upon to maintain the integrity of the crime scene and handle the traffic, which was temporarily halted in both directions.
The residents of the area displayed visible distress in response to the incident. Sheriff Patten highlighted the ordinary nature of the evening, stating, “People were simply going about their usual activities in their yards when this tragedy unfolded.”
By Friday morning, the investigation had made progress, as four “persons of interest” were identified and questioned in relation to the incident. However, law enforcement officers are continuing to interview potential witnesses and gather information in the hope of making an arrest in the near future.
