A 63-year-old woman was found dead in Charlotte woods on Aug. 5, and police have confirmed it as a homicide. The woman, identified as Diane Hester Lewis, was discovered by a resident along Belmeade Drive. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers. In addition, two fatal shootings occurred on the same day, with one on Tipperary Place and the other on Firestreak Drive. The investigations are ongoing. Joe Marusak reported
A 63-year-old woman was discovered deceased in a wooded area in Charlotte on August 5, and the police have now confirmed that she was the victim of a homicide. The authorities were alerted to the presence of the woman, later identified as Diane Hester Lewis, by a local resident who came across her body in the woods along Belmeade Drive at around 1 a.m. This location is situated near the Catawba River in the western part of Mecklenburg County. Following consultation with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined that the cause of death was a result of a deliberate act of violence.
The police have not yet disclosed the specific details of how they suspect Lewis was killed, nor have they made any arrests in connection with the case. However, they have urged anyone who may have any information regarding the circumstances surrounding Lewis’ death to come forward and contact the homicide unit at 704-432-8477 or provide anonymous tips to the Crime Stoppers helpline at 704-334-1600.
In addition to this incident, the police also responded to two other fatal shootings on the same day. One occurred in the 3700 block of Tipperary Place in the afternoon, where a person was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The other shooting took place earlier in the morning on Firestreak Drive in northwest Charlotte, where an individual was shot and subsequently pronounced dead by Medic. The police have described this particular shooting as being related to a domestic situation, but have not disclosed any further details at this time..
