“63-Year-Old Man Charged in Standoff & Property Destruction Incident”

A 63-year-old man, Michael Krahn, is facing multiple charges after a five-hour standoff with law enforcement in Salmon. He has been charged with felony grand theft, felony malicious injury to property, and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers arrest. Krahn was allegedly destroying the inside of an apartment he was renting. Law enforcement called in additional support and eventually took Krahn into custody. They found a loaded stolen Glock 29, two holsters, a wooden hammer, and a Glock gun case. Krahn is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 25. East Idaho News reported

The individual in question, Michael Krahn, has been charged with several offenses, including felony grand theft, felony malicious injury to property, and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers during arrest. The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 1:10 p.m., when the Salmon Police Department received a complaint regarding Krahn, who was renting an apartment on South St. Charles Street and was reported to be causing significant damage to the property. According to an affidavit, Krahn was observed dismantling the walls within the apartment.

The apartment manager had informed law enforcement that Krahn had been creating disturbances for all the tenants. The manager cited an incident the previous night where Krahn had attempted to engage in a physical altercation with another tenant and had consistently run the hot water, depriving other residents of access to hot water. In response to the complaint, officers approached Krahn’s apartment and knocked on the front door. However, they heard what appeared to be the distinct sound of a firearm being loaded, leading them to believe that Krahn was both damaging property and potentially barricading himself inside. As a result, additional law enforcement personnel, including Salmon Search and Rescue and Salmon Fire, were called in to assist in securing the area. Neighboring residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Law enforcement repeatedly called out to Krahn, urging him to exit the apartment. He initially opened the door halfway, but when officers requested that he step outside and show his left hand, he retreated back into the apartment and shut the door. Negotiations were attempted using a loudspeaker, but Krahn could be heard causing further destruction within the apartment, including breaking wooden objects. Eventually, at around 2:40 p.m., Krahn emerged onto the porch but did not comply with law enforcement’s instructions to sit down and display his hands. Instead, he reentered the apartment and closed the door. Recognizing the need for escalated measures, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team was summoned, and an arrest warrant was issued.

Upon the Tactical Response Team’s arrival, they employed an armored vehicle equipped with various tools, which facilitated Krahn’s arrest without any further incidents, ultimately ending the standoff at approximately 6:30 p.m. Subsequently, a search warrant was executed, resulting in the discovery of a loaded black Glock 29, 10mm, along with an additional loaded magazine and two black holsters. Additionally, law enforcement found a wooden hammer and a Glock gun case. Furthermore, it was determined that the Glock had been reported stolen in Kellogg.

Krahn has been assigned a bail amount of £100,000 and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on August 25 at 10 a.m. in the Lemhi County courthouse. It should be noted that the charges against Krahn are merely allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law..
