The incident occurred in late April in Muncie when the man, Nicholas Blackburn, rear-ended a silver vehicle at a high speed. Tragically, the driver of the silver vehicle, Brittany Wilson, and her unborn child were killed as a result of the crash. Blackburn has been charged with causing catastrophic injury while operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his blood. The court documents reveal that Blackburn admitted to looking at his phone before the accident and stated that he had taken Methadone earlier in the day. Data from the crash revealed that Blackburn was traveling at 60 mph without using the brakes, while Wilson’s vehicle was traveling at 25 mph with the brakes applied. Toxicology tests conducted on Blackburn showed the presence of multiple drugs, including amphetamine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and methadone. Blackburn has a history of prior felony charges, including cocaine possession in 2008 and burglary in 2018.
