The driver, George Clemons, was charged with DUI, fentanyl possession, and other drug-related charges. He is currently in custody on bond. Francine Frazier reported

A deputy from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Bunnell, Florida, had a harrowing experience with fentanyl exposure while on duty. The incident was captured on the deputy’s body camera, which also recorded the heroic actions of a fellow deputy who administered Narcan, likely saving his colleague’s life. Deputy Nick Huzior, who is currently recovering, was wearing protective gear when he tested a suspicious white substance found in a vehicle during a routine traffic stop. Despite the precautions, Huzior immediately felt lightheaded and requested medical assistance. The entire incident was documented on the body camera footage, providing a chilling first-hand perspective of the life-threatening situation. Huzior informed Deputy Kyle Gaddie that he was experiencing extreme lightheadedness, trembling, and numbness in his limbs. Aware that the substance being tested could contain fentanyl, Gaddie swiftly administered a precautionary dose of Narcan. When Huzior’s condition did not improve after several minutes, Gaddie administered a second dose. Huzior was subsequently taken to AdventHealth Palm Coast by Flagler County Fire Rescue, where he received treatment and was later discharged. The substance Huzior was testing was later confirmed to be fentanyl. Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly praised his deputies’ training and access to Narcan, which played a crucial role in potentially saving Huzior’s life. Sheriff Staly also expressed gratitude towards the Good Samaritans who stopped to assist the deputies while they awaited medical help, as well as Flagler County Fire Rescue and AdventHealth Palm Coast for their care. The incident began when multiple individuals reported a reckless driver involved in a hit-and-run in Bunnell. The driver continued to drive recklessly on State Road 11, veering off the road several times and nearly causing multiple accidents. Eventually, the driver stopped at 15150 SR 11, and bystanders remained with him until law enforcement arrived. Deputies discovered the driver, identified as George Clemons, seated in the driver’s seat with the car keys concealed under his leg. Narcotics, an empty Bud Light can, and a small alcohol container were visible inside the vehicle. Clemons refused to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently charged with driving under the influence (DUI). Huzior began field testing the narcotics found in the car, leading to additional charges against Clemons, including fentanyl possession, cocaine possession, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, possession of suboxone, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Bunnell Police Department also charged Clemons with leaving the scene of a crash involving property or vehicle damage related to the hit-and-run incident. Clemons is currently held at the Flagler County jail with a bond set at $25,500..
