Upon arrival, first responders discovered an underground cistern filled with water, emitting strong odors. Unfortunately, there were no signs of life within the cistern. In their news release, the sheriff’s office explained that a cistern is a water storage tank. It was later revealed that a group of individuals were engaged in hog hunting on private property when their dog managed to escape from their truck and ran off. Determined to rescue their beloved pet, the group pursued the dog and eventually found it inside the cistern where it had fallen.

One of the hunters bravely jumped into the cistern to save the dog but became trapped. Subsequently, two more individuals jumped in to assist in the rescue, while a fourth person went to retrieve the truck and call for emergency assistance. Tragically, the water level in the cistern was too high, preventing anyone from escaping. As a result, all three individuals and the dog lost their lives.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Delvys Garcia (37), Denise Martinez (26), and Noel Vigil-Benitez (45). They were all residents of Florida. According to reports, the fourth person informed officials that they had tracked the dog using its collar.

The investigation into the cistern incident is ongoing, and an autopsy has been ordered. The bodies of the deceased, including the dog, have been taken to the medical examiner’s office by a local funeral home. The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences and assured the public that they are dedicated to uncovering the details surrounding this unfortunate tragedy..
