Four individuals, including two men, a woman, and a dog, tragically lost their lives during a rescue attempt in Bastrop County, Texas. The incident occurred when the dog became trapped in a hole early Wednesday morning. Responding to a distress call, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office discovered a submerged cistern, a water storage tank, emitting a strong odor. The group of people, who were hog hunting on private property, had pursued the dog after it escaped from their truck and fell into the cistern. One of the hunters jumped in to rescue the dog but became trapped. Two others then entered the cistern to aid the trapped individual and the dog, while a fourth person went to call for help. Unfortunately, due to the water level in the cistern being at ground level, none of them were able to escape, resulting in the deaths of all three individuals and the dog. The victims were identified as Delvys Garcia, 37; Denise Martinez, 26; and Noel Vigil-Benitez, 45, all from Florida. The dog was located using its collar. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and autopsies have been ordered. The bodies of the deceased, along with the dog, were transferred to the medical examiner’s office by a local funeral home..
