Two men are facing charges after a street race in Charlotte resulted in a crash that killed a 17-year-old. The driver of a Ford Mustang crashed into a tree and died from injuries sustained in the crash. Another driver, who was driving a Chevrolet Camaro, ran from the scene but was quickly located and taken into custody. Both suspects were driving approximately 100 mph in a 45 mph zone. The incident is being investigated as spontaneous street racing and is not believed to be connected to any organized street takeovers. Hank Lee reported

The individuals were driving at a speed of approximately 100 mph in a zone where the speed limit was 45 mph, leading to a collision between one of the drivers and another vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of a 17-year-old. Two men have now been charged in connection with the incident, which occurred during a street race in southwest Charlotte. The crash took place on West Arrowood Road near Hebron Street on the evening of Saturday, August 5. Upon arrival at the scene, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police discovered a Ford Mustang that had crashed into a tree, with significant damage to the passenger side. The driver of the Mustang, identified as 17-year-old Ivan Moralez-Galvez, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision. Additionally, a Chevrolet Camaro was found with substantial front-end damage. The driver of the Camaro attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly apprehended with the assistance of eyewitnesses. Paulo Alexis Ramos-Avila, the driver of the Camaro, has been charged with second-degree murder, felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death, and street racing. Detectives estimate that both suspects were driving at speeds of around 100 mph in a 45 mph zone at the time of the crash. Detective Tonya Arrington expressed the heartbreak of the situation, emphasizing that the loss of Ivan’s life was entirely preventable and the result of two individuals choosing to engage in reckless behavior and street racing. Another individual, Javoris Williams, who was driving a second Camaro, fled the scene without stopping. However, he was apprehended on Wednesday night and now faces charges of second-degree murder, reckless driving, and participating in a speed racing competition. Arrington highlighted the severe and life-altering consequences of these actions and stressed that this incident does not appear to be connected to any organized street takeovers in Charlotte. The investigation is ongoing to determine if the suspects had any prior knowledge of each other or if this was a spontaneous street racing event..
