A 36-year-old man from Riverside was hit and killed by a truck driver on Highway 101 in San Martin. The man was standing next to his vehicle on the right shoulder, securing his cargo when the truck driver made an unsafe turn and hit him. The man later died from his injuries at the hospital. The truck driver, a 53-year-old man from Oakland, was unharmed. The crash is under investigation, but alcohol or drugs are not believed to be involved. A fatal accident occurred on southbound Highway 101 in San Martin, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man from Riverside. The incident took place at 12:31 p.m. near San Martin Avenue when the victim, who had stopped his vehicle on the right shoulder, was hit by a 2017 International two-axle box truck. The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old man from Oakland, made an “unsafe turning movement,” causing him to veer onto the shoulder and collide with the victim. Despite receiving immediate medical attention at the scene, the man succumbed to his injuries after being transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will disclose the victim’s identity once it is confirmed and the next of kin has been notified. Fortunately, the truck driver emerged from the incident unharmed. While investigations are ongoing, the California Highway Patrol has stated that alcohol or drugs are unlikely to have been contributing factors.
