BUENA PARK, Calif. (KABC) — A 44-year-old Norwalk man was apprehended at Knott’s Soak City on suspicion of engaging in inappropriate behavior with a minor, according to an announcement made by the police on Wednesday.
Authorities in Buena Park stated that the incident occurred on July 25.
The minor, who was part of a summer camp group, was in the wave pool when they reported being touched inappropriately from behind by the suspect, as disclosed by the police.
Two teenagers who witnessed the incident claimed to have observed the suspect covertly recording videos of minors underwater. They promptly alerted the lifeguards and security personnel.
One of the teenagers followed the suspect into the restroom.
“He appeared disturbingly at ease. Whenever I entered the restroom, he acknowledged me. He didn’t say anything, just nodded his head… It seemed completely ordinary to him, and that’s what is even more distressing,” one of the teenagers told Eyewitness News.
“He kept looking over at me and attempting to position himself to get a better view of my body and my bathing suit,” another teenager recounted. “It was an extremely frightening experience.”
The police commended the teenagers for promptly reporting the incident to security personnel.
The suspect has been identified as Daniel Alvarez.
The case has been forwarded to the Orange County District Attorney’s office for potential charges, according to the police.
