A 40-year old man from Davenport died after losing control of his motorcycle and colliding with another vehicle. The incident occurred on Lake Marion Creek Road in Polk County. A tragic incident occurred on the evening of August 9, 2023, resulting in the unfortunate demise of a 40-year old man from Davenport. The fatal incident took place when the man lost control of his motorcycle and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Promptly responding to the distress call, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene located on Lake Marion Creek Road, situated between Haines City and Poinciana, north of Canal Road, at approximately 7:35 pm.

Despite the efforts of the Polk County Fire Rescue team, who swiftly transported the victim to a local hospital, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he passed away at 9:14 pm. Fortunately, the other party involved in the accident, identified as a 34-year old individual named Sasha Ortega from Poinciana, emerged unharmed from the collision.
Dedicated detectives from the Traffic Homicide Investigations unit of the PCSO promptly arrived at the scene to initiate their inquiry. Collecting witness statements and meticulously examining the available evidence, these investigators embarked on a thorough investigation to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it was determined that Ms. Ortega had been traveling in a northward direction on Lake Marion Creek Road, operating a white 2021 Nissan Altima. Conversely, the victim had been riding a white 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle, heading southbound. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was approaching the road’s sharp curves at an excessive speed, leading to the motorcycle sliding into the northbound lane. Tragically, the victim was thrown off the bike and ended up beneath the Nissan vehicle. It is worth noting that the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, emphasizing the unpredictable nature and severity of the incident.
As a result of this devastating collision, a section of Lake Marion Creek Road had to be closed for approximately three hours to facilitate the investigation and ensure the safety of all those involved.
