An 18-year-old girl in Ludhiana committed suicide after allegedly being harassed by a resident for marriage. The victim, Arpita, had refused the accused’s proposal and consumed poison on August 4. She was initially admitted to Ludhiana civil hospital but her health deteriorated, and she was taken to PGI in Chandigarh where she died. A case has been registered against the accused under IPC Section 306. TNN reported

Ludhiana: A tragic incident occurred in Tibba area where an 18-year-old girl named Arpita (18) from New Subhash Nagar took her own life by consuming a poisonous substance. It has been alleged that she was being harassed by a local resident who had been pressuring her to marry him, despite her refusal. Arpita’s father, Balwinder Kumar, revealed that his daughter had been suffering due to the constant harassment. In an upset state, she consumed the toxic substance on August 4, leading to her admission to Ludhiana civil hospital. Unfortunately, her condition worsened, and she was transferred to PGI in Chandigarh, where she ultimately succumbed to her ordeal. The police have taken action by registering a case against the accused, Vishal Kumar Shelly, under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC..
