The spokesperson for Traffic & Road Safety, Michael Kananura, reported that the accident occurred at 10:00 pm along the Manafwa-Mbale Road. The accident involved a Tata Lorry registered as UBJ 994J and owned by Bukusu Corporative Enterprise Ltd. According to Kananura, the driver of the lorry, identified as Mr Godmas Mamai, was transporting students from Nakhupa Primary School at a high speed when the vehicle lost control and overturned at Kufu. Tragically, a 16-year-old pupil named Naminayi Thomas lost her life instantly, and 117 others were injured. The injured individuals were swiftly taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention, while the deceased’s body was also transported to the same hospital for a postmortem examination. The vehicle involved in the accident has been taken to Manafwa Police Station for a thorough inspection. However, the driver, Mr Godmas Mamai, is currently evading authorities.
