A law enforcement officer in western Kansas fatally shot and killed a man during a response to a domestic disturbance on Tuesday, as reported by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The deceased individual has been identified as Jesse Nicholls, a 46-year-old resident of Ransom. The incident unfolded when the Ness County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls reporting an armed man making threats. The calls were traced back to a residence at 207 S. Vermont in Ransom. In an attempt to peacefully resolve the situation, a deputy engaged in a phone conversation with Nicholls, persuading him to exit the premises. Following the deputy’s instructions, Nicholls emerged onto the front yard and initially placed a pistol on the ground. However, to the surprise of the deputies, he proceeded to pick it up and discharge a shot towards the ground. Instantly responding to this action, a deputy from the Ness County Sheriff’s Office fired multiple rounds, striking Nicholls. He was swiftly transported to Grisell Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, no deputies sustained any harm during the incident..
