Two individuals have been taken into custody following a tragic incident in northwest Fresno, California. According to the Fresno Police Department, a 66-year-old woman named Mary Lou Flores lost her life in a collision, while a 24-year-old man was shot. The events unfolded on Monday, July 31, at approximately 6:44 p.m. when authorities received a report of a shooting victim at the Walmart parking lot on West Shaw Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the wounded man inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Simultaneously, another report came in regarding a traffic accident on North Brawley Avenue involving a sedan and a small SUV. Upon reaching the scene, officers found the sedan occupied by five adults, with Mary Lou Flores identified as the driver. Tragically, Flores did not survive the crash.

Further investigation revealed that the occupants of the SUV had fled the scene before the officers’ arrival. It was later determined by detectives that Flores and the shooting victim were acquainted and had been involved in a disturbance at a nearby location. Both individuals left the altercation in separate vehicles, but they were pursued by two individuals in a Toyota SUV. During the chase, the driver of the SUV fired multiple shots, one of which struck the 24-year-old man. The pursuit continued, resulting in Flores colliding with a guard rail and the SUV.

Following the collision, both occupants of the SUV fled the scene. Through their ongoing investigation, detectives identified the driver of the SUV as 20-year-old Johnny Tapia. His girlfriend, 25-year-old Nicole Williams, was identified as the passenger. On Monday, Tapia was apprehended on suspicion of homicide, multiple counts of attempted homicide, and assault with a deadly weapon. Williams, based on her actions during the incident, was also arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon and accessory.
