Further investigations are being conducted into a tragic incident involving a fatal fire that claimed the lives of a father and five children. The 34-year-old victim, who has been identified as Wayne Godinet, was known to the police. The bodies of the six individuals were discovered in a house on Todman Street in Russell Island, Redland City. Emergency services were alerted to the incident early on Sunday morning, and upon arrival, they found the property engulfed in flames, with two neighboring houses also affected. Due to the intensity of the fire, it took several hours for fire crews to gain access to the home, ultimately confirming the presence of the deceased at around 4.50pm. To ensure a thorough investigation, a team of 25 detectives from the Redland Bay area and the crime and intelligence command has been assembled. The authorities are keeping an open mind regarding the cause of the fire, with Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham stating that no determination has been made as to whether the incident is suspicious or not. Five children, including two four-year-old twins, a three-year-old, a ten-year-old, and an eleven-year-old, are believed to have perished in the fire. Two women, one identified as Samantha Stephenson, the mother of the children, and the other aged 21, were released from the hospital and are currently under the care of friends. They are expected to provide further information to investigators at a later time. The recovery of the bodies is the primary focus of the investigation, after which the authorities will shift their attention towards identifying the cause of the fire.
