The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in a double homicide investigation in Sturgis. A 39-year-old woman was shot and later died, and a 61-year-old man was also found shot and killed. The suspect, David Keith Algarin Jr., was later pursued and killed by police in Branch County. The Michigan State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting. The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office was called upon to assist the Sturgis Department of Public Safety in their investigation into a tragic double homicide. A 39-year-old woman was found shot on South Centerville Road, near South Street in Sturgis, and sadly succumbed to her injuries. The suspect in this heinous crime has been identified as David Keith Algarin Jr., a 30-year-old individual.

In their pursuit of the suspect, the deputies responded to another location on US 12, where they discovered another victim, a 61-year-old man, who had also been fatally shot. The authorities received information that led them to believe that the suspect could be found in the 31000 block of US 12.

On Sunday morning, officers from the Sturgis Department of Public Safety spotted the suspect driving through the City of Sturgis. A joint effort between the officers and St. Joseph County Deputies was made to apprehend the suspect, but he attempted to evade capture and initiated a pursuit. Regrettably, this pursuit concluded in an officer-involved shooting in Branch County, resulting in the death of suspect David Algarin Jr.

The Michigan State Police are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting. At this point in time, no further information will be released regarding this tragic incident..
