A man was found dead in a bullet-riddled car that had caught fire after a wreck on Interstate 40 in Greensboro. The man, identified as Dedrick Lee Wooding, was discovered by emergency responders and his death is being investigated as a homicide. Police found damage consistent with gunfire on the vehicle. A man tragically lost his life when he was discovered unconscious in a car that had been extensively damaged by gunfire and subsequently caught fire during a collision on Interstate 40 in Greensboro. The deceased individual has been identified as Dedrick Lee Wooding, a 35-year-old male, and the authorities are treating his death as a homicide. The emergency services, including firefighters, police officers, and Guilford County EMS, were dispatched to the scene following reports of a two-vehicle accident around 4:30 a.m. on Friday near exit 216 of I-40. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle in which Wooding was located engulfed in flames in the middle travel lane of the westbound carriageway. Once the fire was extinguished, the police observed damage consistent with gunfire on the car. Tragically, the individual was pronounced dead by EMS personnel at the scene. The police also discovered damage on the second vehicle involved in the crash; however, no information regarding its occupants has been provided. In order to conduct a thorough investigation, the westbound lanes of I-40 were temporarily closed between Freeman Mill Road and West Wendover Avenue. Homicide detectives, as well as officers from the crash-reconstruction and forensic teams, were called in to gather evidence and analyze the scene.
