In a tragic incident that took place in Couva, a 20-year-old man named Josiah Vespre, also known as Zoomi or Zulu, lost his life during an alleged shoot-out with the police. The incident unfolded on Railway Road, Couva, around 1:50 pm when officers from the Southern Division Task Force were on exercise duty.

According to initial reports, the officers noticed two men fleeing in the opposite direction. Vespre, one of the men, then opened fire at them. In response, the officers returned fire, resulting in Vespre being shot. A video circulating on social media captured the moment when the officers retrieved him from a densely vegetated area and brought him to the roadside. Unfortunately, Vespre was pronounced dead upon his arrival at the hospital.

During the investigation, a Glock pistol, along with a magazine and multiple rounds of ammunition, was recovered from the scene. Senior Superintendent Richard Smith of the Southern Division confirmed the launch of an inquiry into the fatal shooting.
